Arcadia Junior MBA Business Plan Competition Winners Announced

The inaugural competition was held on the sidelines of the third edition of the students’s Entrepreneur Workshop

30 April 2018, Dubai, UAE – The Arcadia Preparatory School hosted the first-ever Arcadia Junior MBA Business Plan Competition and the top three teams were awarded lucrative cash prizes to encourage them to further pursue their ideas.

The winners were chosen by an independent panel of judges comprising of eminent and successful entrepreneurs from the region, including jewellery tycoon Amit Dhamani, author of ‘Interrupted Entrepreneurship’ Raméz A. Baassiri, and social entrepreneur Nikita Patel.

The first place was awarded to Bomin Kim, Aliz Matrai, Chiamaka Udu and Fatima Zahraa, a team of Year 3 Students, for their innovative concept of a café. Year 4 Students Naya Ayoub, Kay Nicholl, Maya Sidhakumar and Jena Tawfiq picked up the second place, while Nithilaa Tamilmaran, a Year 5 student won the third prize. The event was well-attended with over 100 Students and their parents.

The Business Plan Competition is an outcome of Arcadia’s unique Junior MBA programme, a 12-week MBA-style programme designed for 6-11 years old with four learning goals: to encourage students to think critically, provide basic financial literacy skills, encourage collaboration among students and improve their presentation skills.

Navin Valrani, Founder & Programme Leader of Arcadia Junior MBA, said: “Every session of Junior MBA classes has proven to me that our Students are brimming with high-calibre ideas. With this competition, we sought to give them the opportunity to polish their ideas and present coherent, viable business plans. We believe the cash rewards will reinforce their confidence and make them realise their ideas are worth investing in.”

“The competition was so well-received that it makes us want to shape it up in the years to come and take it to an inter-school level,” he added.

David Harkin, Arcadia’s entrepreneur-in-residence, opined: “Having worked with over 60,000 students via 7billionideas, I genuinely feel The Arcadia Preparatory School has one of the most conducive environments for spurring creativity. In addition to the competition, this third edition like its predecessors also had several other activities that were designed to develop teamwork, presentation skills, public speaking and listening skills by combining idea generation and development.
