The Importance of a Logo

Who does not know what the swoosh symbol represents? Or the apple sign stands for what brand? These might be simple symbols; however, over the years these symbols represented huge brands. They created the brand identity for well-known companies. 

First, let’s start by defining what a logo is. A logo is a small graphic element and there are five main types of logos. The wordmark, letterform, emblem, pictorial mark and the abstract mark. A logo is usually the foundation for each company and it should always illustrate what a company does. A logo usually defines the purpose of the brand, and should be shared via every marketing piece utilized at the company.

In order to create a recognizable image of the company, a company then needs a great logo associated with it. Logos are used to create a recognizable image of the company from the very first glance. Thus, wherever the logo appears, it’ll remind prospects about the company and its services. For example, whenever anyone sees a “swoosh” sign we tend to think of Nike directly or even the letter “M” reminds us of McDonalds. These symbols and letters might remind people of brands and these are the main and the first step for creating well-established brands in the minds of consumers. If we think of Nike for example, we are more likely to have positive feelings towards the brand and we are more likely to choose Nike over any other brand. This relationship with the brand goes beyond the value of the shoes itself. This is the main reason to their custom designed logo and a strong brand identity.

Logos are used to foster brand loyalty. As a brand grows, the logo of the brand becomes more familiar to the consumers. Every brand is looking for this kind of familiarity to create a trustworthy relationship with the consumers. Let’s think about Apple products, almost everyone tends to buy an iPhone instead of getting any other brand. Why? Because with Apple products, you know you’re in safe hands and we all trust the brand. The logo is the first reason to remind any consumer of the brand. 

Simply, a logo is important as it grabs the consumers’ attention, makes a strong first impression and is the foundation of the brand identity. A logo is usually a memorable symbol of the brand, distinguishes the brand from competition and fosters brand loyalty.
